A Full-Circle Moment

For more than 30 years, the cruise industry was my home. It gave me unforgettable experiences, lifelong friendships, and the privilege of working alongside remarkable people from around the world.

​

After retiring from life at sea, I never imagined that one day I would return, not as a crew member, but as an author.

​

Seeing DogToon Adventures: Cruise Crew available to guests aboard Oceania Cruises is one of the proudest moments of my professional journey. It brings together two chapters of my life in a way I never expected.

From Idea to Reality

The idea for DogToon Adventures: Cruise Crew began with a simple question:

How could I help children better understand the incredible people who make a cruise vacation possible?

​

Every voyage is made possible by hundreds of dedicated professionals working together behind the scenes. Yet many guests, especially children, never have the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of careers and teamwork that bring a cruise ship to life.

I wanted to create a book that celebrates those remarkable officers and crew members in a fun, engaging, and educational way.

Rather than telling their story through uniforms and job titles alone, I chose to tell it through the DogToon characters. Each character represents a different cruise ship profession, helping young readers discover the people behind the uniforms while encouraging conversations between families and crew members.

When I shared the concept with Samantha Field, she immediately understood the vision. She recognized that DogToon Adventures: Cruise Crew was more than a children's book, it was a unique onboard keepsake that celebrates life at sea and the people who make every voyage unforgettable.

Thanks to her belief in the project, that idea became a reality.
